Your Responsibilities
Our Day Service has six work groups that provide meaningful work and activities using creative processes. We have a philosophy of learning and developing skills together and seek to create high quality products and services to others. We refer to the individuals who use our services as ‘members’.
The Day Service operates Monday-Friday and has approximately 70 members. The service is made up of the following groups:
- The Transitions group is new service that will start in 2026. The purpose of the group is to support young adults transitioning into adult services. The group will support the development of life skills and building confidence.
- The Pentland Group carries out woodwork, green woodwork, basketry and grounds maintenance. The group works from a converted Greenkeepers Barn and is a fully equipped workshop with high quality machines, using locally sourced timber, where possible. This is complimented by an off-grid workshop space for green woodworking.
- The May Group work with various textiles and crafts. Music and therapeutic activities also form a part of the week.
- The Garden Group cultivates vegetables and salad, grows plants for community use and to sell and provides other horticultural activities such as composting.
- The Quarry Group maintains the Tiphereth Estate and supports Tiphereth trading, a social enterprise that creates and delivers firewood and compost.
- The Print Studio creates unique art pieces using screen printing and other printing techniques. These are used throughout our community and sold externally as well.
- The Pottery produces handmade ceramics for use in the community and for sale.
Purpose of the Job
Provide support and care to adults with learning disabilities and autism to participate in meaningful work and develop skills within a group/workshop setting.
· Manage and co-ordinate activities within the group which meet the needs of individual members and which are in keeping with Tiphereth’s mission statement, Camphill values and the aims of the Transitions group
· To build relationships with people using a person-centred approach founded on dignity and respect for individuality, and that enables choice and control
· Plan staffing, arrange cover and deploy staff in a way which maximises cost efficiency whilst meeting the needs of the people we support
· To provide direct support to members and lead by example being a model for good practice to team members, and maintaining a well-motivated, professional and harmonious team
· To work positively with any behaviours of concern that may challenge.
· Administer medication if required including emergency epilepsy medication subject to receiving the necessary training
· To provide intimate personal care and support including assisting personal mobility safely using equipment; supporting meals, social activities, outings.
· To support people to participate in tasks and activities that interest and engage them and develop new skills.
· Ensure team member’s key working is carried out in line with Tiphereth’s policy and Care Inspectorate requirements including personal plans, risk assessments and outcomes are all reviewed at least every six months.
· Line manage and support staff including providing regular one-to-one supervision, absence management, and taking part in staff reviews with the day Service Manager.
· To build good relations with families, carers and other relevant professionals
· Support members to work towards the aims of the workshop or group and be involved in the planning and production of quality goods and services
· Promote and support effective team working through good communication and the chairing of weekly team meetings
· Actively promote meaningful work and purposeful activities, ensuring that individuals are being supported according to their interests and wishes
· Ensure health and safety requirements are met within the group and compliance with Health & Safety legislation and policy
· Plan and implement service developments along with the Day Service Manager
· Contribute to the recruitment, appointment and induction of staff
Other Tasks
· To take personal responsibility for professional development in line with SSSC requirements when required (currently not required) including; registering with the SSSC; achieving SVQ3 in Health and Social Care; and doing post registration training and learning (not currently required in Day Services)
· Become a member of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.
· To provide written reports to the Trustees, and to other organisational groups
· To attend the weekly Team Leader’s meeting, and monthly ‘College’ meeting, a forum for all in positions of responsibility across the community.
· Participate in community celebrations and the cultural and spiritual life
· Contribute to creating a harmonious working environment and maintaining a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment in which to work.
Your Profile
We are seeking a new staff member who shares our values and has the experience and skills to lead a team as well as support adults with learning disabilities to participate in meaningful work within our day service.
The post is a Maternity cover position lasting for a minimum of 6 months. You should have the skills to manage a small staff team and co-ordinate activities within the group which meet the needs of individual members and which are in keeping with Tiphereth’s mission statement, Camphill values and the aims of the Day Service.
The post is based in the newly formed Transitions Group which aims to support young adults transitioning from school or college into our Community. The group will focus on building confidence and skill whilst maintaining Tiphereth’s values and ethos.
Experience in the field of supporting adults in a social care setting and managing a small team is essential, as is the confidence to share your skills. A good understanding of autism and the needs of people who use different forms of communication and confidence to work with behaviour that challenges is also essential. Successful candidates should be able to work to guidelines for the group and match targets set by the Day Service Manager and Senior Management Team.
